Frequently Asked Questions
Buying and delivery
You buy a digital crochet pattern as a PDF file. No yarn, toy or printed booklet is included, and nothing is posted to you.
After your payment is confirmed, we send the PDF to the email address you entered at checkout, usually within 24 hours. It is not an automatic download at the moment of payment.
The one you type at checkout. Please check it for typos before paying, because that address is the only place we send the file.
Prices are shown in US dollars. If your card is in another currency, your bank converts the amount and may add its own fee.
Payment is taken at checkout, and the methods available to you are the ones shown on the checkout page. Full payment is needed before we send any file.
Will anything be shipped to my home?
No. Every product in the store is a digital PDF pattern delivered by email, so there is no parcel and no shipping cost.
Can I buy several patterns in one order?
Yes. Add each pattern to your cart and pay once; the files for that order go to the same email address.
Do you sell pattern bundles?
Yes, some products are bundles of several patterns sold together. The product page lists which patterns a bundle contains, so you can check before you buy.
Can I see what a pattern looks like before buying?
The product page shows photos of the finished piece and a description. If something you need to know is not there, such as the hook size, send us a message before you order.
My order went through but the email has not arrived yet. What should I do?
Give it up to 24 hours, then check your spam, junk and promotions folders. If it is still missing, contact us with your order number and we will send it again.
Can I buy a pattern as a gift for someone else?
The file goes to the email entered at checkout. If you want it to reach another person, write to us before ordering so we can tell you how to set up the order.
Do prices ever change?
Prices can change over time. The price you pay is the one shown in your cart at checkout.
Do I need an account to place an order?
You need a working email address at checkout, because that is where your pattern is delivered. Everything you need about your order is in the emails we send.
Will I get a confirmation after I pay?
Yes. Your order is confirmed by email, and your pattern follows by email after payment, usually within 24 hours.
Who can place an order?
Our Terms ask buyers to be at least 18, or to buy with the consent of a parent or guardian.
Using your PDF pattern
Any PDF reader works, including the one built into most phones, tablets and web browsers. Save the file to your device first so you can open it without a connection.
Yes, you can print your own copy for personal use. Printing at home on letter or A4 paper is fine; scale to fit the page if your printer cuts off the edges.
Yes. Many crocheters keep the PDF open on a tablet and zoom in on the round they are working on.
On paper, a pencil tick next to each finished round works well. On a tablet, most PDF apps let you highlight or add notes to your own copy.
No. Our Terms do not allow sharing, reselling, redistributing or reproducing the PDF files. If a friend would like the pattern, they can buy their own copy.
What language are the patterns written in?
Patterns are written in English unless the product page says otherwise. Check the title and description before you buy.
Do patterns use US or UK crochet terms?
Look at the abbreviation key at the start of the pattern, which tells you how each stitch is named. If you are unsure before buying, ask us and we will check for you.
What if I lose my PDF file?
Search your inbox for the email we sent with the pattern first. If you cannot find it, contact us with your order number and the email used at checkout.
Can I save the pattern to cloud storage?
Keeping a backup copy for yourself is fine. Sharing the file or a link to it with other people is not allowed by our Terms.
What should I do if part of a pattern does not make sense to me?
Write to us through the contact page with the pattern name and the round or step you are on. Including a photo of your work helps us understand the problem.
I think I found a mistake in a pattern. Who do I tell?
Please tell us through the contact page with the pattern name, the round number and what you expected. That helps us check the pattern.
Can I change the colors from the ones in the photos?
Yes. Colors are your choice for your own piece; just keep the yarn weight the pattern asks for so the size and stitch counts still work.
Can I use a different yarn weight than the pattern says?
You can, but the finished size will change: thicker yarn with a bigger hook makes a larger piece, thinner yarn a smaller one. Buy a little extra yarn if you go thicker.
Why does my finished piece look different from the photo?
Yarn, hook size, tension, stuffing and how the face is placed all change the look. Small differences are normal with handmade pieces.
Can I resize a pattern myself?
The usual way is to change the yarn weight and hook size together while following the same instructions. Adding rounds to a pattern changes its proportions, so we do not recommend it.
Getting started with amigurumi
Amigurumi is the Japanese craft of crocheting or knitting small stuffed figures. Most crochet amigurumi is worked in tight single crochet rounds, then stuffed and assembled.
Yes, if you are patient. Learn the chain, single crochet, the magic ring, increases and decreases on a small ball first, then start a pattern with few pieces.
The chain, slip stitch, single crochet, increase and decrease cover most of the work. Many patterns also use back-loop-only rounds and the magic ring.
Most amigurumi patterns are written round by round in text, so charts are rarely needed. Learning the common abbreviations matters more.
Pick a design with a small number of parts, mostly round shapes and one or two colors. Limbs, outfits and many color changes are better saved for a later project.
Is crochet amigurumi worked from the inside or the outside?
Most pieces are worked in spiral rounds with the outside of the fabric facing you. Some crocheters turn the piece inside out at the start; follow your pattern's photos.
What makes amigurumi different from other crochet?
The pieces are small, worked in dense single crochet rounds and stuffed, so the fabric has to hide the filling. Shaping comes from increases and decreases rather than from blocking.
What does "Rnd" mean in a pattern?
Rnd is short for round. Amigurumi pieces are usually worked in rounds rather than rows, and each round ends with a stitch count to check.
What does the number in parentheses at the end of a round mean?
It is the total number of stitches you should have after that round. Counting before you move on helps you catch mistakes early.
Do I crochet every piece before sewing anything together?
Most patterns have you make all parts first, then stuff and assemble. Some designs join pieces as you go, so follow the order your pattern gives.
Should I learn right-handed or left-handed?
Use the hand that feels natural. Left-handed crocheters can follow the same patterns; their work simply spirals in the mirrored direction.
How much yarn does a small amigurumi use?
It depends on size, yarn weight and how many colors are involved. Your pattern lists the materials; buy a little extra in the main color if you are unsure.
Can children learn to crochet amigurumi?
Older children often enjoy it with an adult nearby, starting with a thicker yarn and a larger hook. Keep small parts such as safety eyes away from younger children.
What if my first project looks lumpy?
That is normal. Tension evens out with practice, and stuffing firmly and evenly smooths out a lot of small bumps.
Is there a right side and a wrong side in amigurumi?
Yes. The right side shows small V shapes, while the wrong side has horizontal bars. Most toys are made with the V side on the outside.
Materials and tools
Your pattern names the hook. In general, amigurumi uses a hook one or two sizes smaller than the yarn label suggests, so the fabric is tight.
Smooth cotton, cotton blends and acrylic are common choices. Your pattern lists the weight it was designed for, and that weight matters more than the fiber.
A blunt tapestry needle with a large eye is used to sew pieces together, weave in tails and embroider details. A sharp needle can split the yarn.
Plastic eyes with a post that goes through the fabric and a washer that locks on the back. They are fitted before the head is closed and cannot be added afterwards.
Buttons can come loose and are a choking hazard, so they are not suitable for toys meant for young children. Embroidered eyes are the usual alternative for children's toys.
What stuffing do most amigurumi makers use?
Polyester fiberfill is the usual choice because it is light, springy and washable. Pull it apart into fluffy pieces before stuffing so it does not clump.
Do I need stitch markers?
For spiral rounds they help a lot. A marker in the first stitch of each round shows where the round begins; a scrap of contrasting yarn also works.
Which scissors should I use?
Any small, sharp scissors that cut yarn cleanly. Embroidery scissors make trimming close to the fabric neater.
Are pins useful for amigurumi?
Yes. Pins hold ears, arms and other parts in place while you check the position and sew. Ball-head or long quilting pins stand out against the fabric.
What does yarn weight mean?
It is the thickness of the yarn, grouped by the Craft Yarn Council into categories 0 (lace) to 7 (jumbo). Patterns name the weight they were designed for.
Can I mix yarns of different fibers in one toy?
You can, but different fibers may wash and age differently, and their thickness may not match exactly. For a toy that will be washed, using one fiber type is simpler.
Is chenille or plush yarn harder to work with?
Plush yarn is soft but its stitches are harder to see and count. Many crocheters use extra stitch markers and work slowly with it.
Does hook material matter?
Aluminum, wood, bamboo and plastic hooks all work. Some people find an ergonomic handle more comfortable for long sessions of tight amigurumi stitches.
What thread is used for embroidering faces?
Many makers use embroidery floss or a thin yarn in a contrast color. Use a sharp or tapestry needle that suits the thickness.
Do I need a row counter?
It is optional. A pencil tick on your printed pattern or a note on your tablet does the same job.
Finishing and caring for your toys
Firmly enough that the piece keeps its shape and does not dent when squeezed, but not so much that stuffing shows between stitches. Add it in small pieces.
Before you close the head, while you can still reach inside to push on the washer. Pin the position first and check it from several angles.
Thread the tail on a tapestry needle, pass it through the front loops of the remaining stitches and pull gently to close the hole. Then secure the tail inside the piece.
Push the needle into the piece and out the other side, pull the tail snug, then trim it close so the end disappears into the stuffing.
Usually yes, using the tail left when you fastened off. Matching yarn makes the stitches less visible.
How can I make sure arms and legs are even?
Pin both sides first and look at the toy from the front, the back and from above. Count stitches or rounds from a landmark, such as the eyes, to place each pair.
How do I clean a finished amigurumi?
Spot clean small marks with a damp cloth first. For a full wash, follow the care advice on the yarn label, use cool water and mild soap, then press out water and dry flat.
Can I put an amigurumi in the dryer?
Air drying is the gentler choice. Heat can shrink some fibers, felt wool and damage glued or plastic parts.
How do I keep a white toy looking clean?
Keep it out of dust and direct sun, and clean small marks early. Washing your hands before working with light yarn also helps.
Why does my stuffing show through the stitches?
The fabric is too loose for the stuffing, or the piece is overstuffed. A smaller hook and firmer tension help on your next piece.
Can I give a handmade toy to a baby?
For babies and young children, avoid small parts, buttons, beads and loose pellets, and embroider the eyes. Follow the toy-safety guidance where you live.
Can I use glue on amigurumi?
Sewing is usually better for toys that will be handled, because glue can let go over time. Glue is sometimes used on decorative pieces that are not played with.
How do I stop a stuffed piece from going flat over time?
Stuff firmly, adding small amounts and packing each layer. Fiberfill settles with use, so a toy that is hugged a lot may need a little extra.
How should I store finished amigurumi?
Keep them dry, out of direct sunlight and away from dust. A breathable fabric bag is a good choice for long storage.
Can I add a scent or herbs to the stuffing?
It is better not to do that for toys meant for children, since dried herbs can crumble and some people are sensitive to scents. Use plain stuffing.
